Green Line, 2022
The video work is the additional fifth chapter out of a series of illustrated works of "The Deficient Vase". In this work, I have created a special path in the Moshav plantation and bound it with local materials, branches, stones, and seeds of Israeli flowers which I collected on-site.
Throughout the winter until springtime of 2022, I watered the plants using a cracked jug I had purchased. In the spring, sequence sprouting of green leaves and wildflowers like the lupine, monk's hood, anemone, and poppy had started to bloom.
The seemingly damaged jug allows for the creation of a random plant sequence through the drippings. A green line.
The work deals with thoughts on beauty, the beauty in imperfections. Form and function, creativity, life and death, and the body as a vessel. The name "Green Line" is a reference to the controversial term, "Green Line".
עבודת הווידאו מהווה פרק נוסף וחמישי לארבעת הפרקים המצוירים של "הכד חסר". יצרתי שביל במטע במושב. תיחמתי אותו בחומרי המקום: ענפים ואבנים וזרעתי זרעים של פרחי ארץ ישראל. רכשתי כד סדוק ולאורך החורף ועד לאביב 2022 טיפחתי והשקיתי באמצעות הכד את הצמיחה. נוצר רצף של לבלוב ופריחה של עלים ירוקים ופרחי בר כמו התורמוס, כובע הנזיר, החרצית והפרג הפורחים באביב.
הכד החסר שלכאורה הוא פגום מאפשר ליצור באמצעות הנזילות האקראיות רצף של צמחיה. מן קו ירוק. העבודה עוסקת במחשבות יופי, על היופי שבדופי, על צורה ופונקציה. על יצירתיות. על חיים ומוות. על גוף כמיכל. השם "קו ירוק" מאזכר מונח טעון "הקו הירוק".

The video art is an homage that is honored the ceramic artist Hillela Chaitov. Her series of vase works impressed me much.
In my work, I implemented a camera on the bottom of the vase which creates an impression of an internal cave, while the upper part of the vase illustrates the life outside of it. The stream of water that flows inside the vase stands for heavy rain that one needs to find a refuge inside the cave.
The work creates a dialogue between in and out, between the uneasy feeling of the stream of water/rainy day to the peaceful atmosphere of the bright sky and the edge of the trees.
"מערה" - עבודת הוידאו נעשתה באמצעות השתלת מצלמה לתחתית הכד של היללה חייטוב הקרמיקאית שיצרתי גוף עבודות כמחווה לפועלה. דפנות הכד נראים כמו פנים מערה ופתח הכד נראה כמו פתחה של מערה. נוצר דיאלוג בין פנים וחוץ: הנוף הניבט מבעד לפתח ענפי העץ ופיסת שמים. הפסטורליה מופרעת מידי פעם ממטח של מים הנכנס פנימה המזכיר גשם ולעיתים נוצר חשש שהמערה תתמלא עד גדותיה ותסכן את אלה שנמצאים בתוכה.
Ruach, an artist book by Ora Brill, 2018
Drawing and paintings on used notebooks and books has become an integral part of my daily studio practice in the last couple of years. This practice allows me an expressive freedom by way of choosing whether to open or close the object at hand. It allows freedom of exploration and experimentation, deviation from the norm, and the discovery of different modes of representation. Working on such a format accelerates one’s ideas and helps find a visual language authentic to one’s own. Although this particular notebook contains eighty different drawings, for me it represents one singular artwork, an artist book. I chose the name “Ruach,” which in Hebrew means both wind and spirit, to represent this video as it deals with the essence of drawing in both visual and audio elements; the artist book turns the pages on itself.
עבודה על מחברות הפכה להיות חלק מהותי משיגרת יומי בשנתיים האחרונות בסטודיו. יצירה על מחברות או ספרים ישנים מזמנת חופש מוחלט מעצם אפשרות הבחירה לפתוח או לסגור את האובייקט. העבודה מאפשרת חופש מוחלט לניסיונות. חריגה מהנעשה, בחירה בדרכים נוספות ליצג רעיונות. עבודה על פורמט מאין זה מאיץ רעיונות ומפתח את השפה האישית. למרות שיש בה 80 רישומים היא מבחינתי יצירת אמנות אחת, ספר אמנית. השם שנבחר לעבודת הוידאו הוא: "רוח". עוסק במהות הרישום- ביצוג החזותי ובסאונד וגם בהיותו אובייקט שמדפדף את עצמו.
On the Needle of Time
The title for the video piece “On the Needle of Time” is taken from a poem I wrote. The piece deals with the subjects of education and heritage, reflecting the relationship between parent and child, their differences and similarities, memories and remembrance, exposing the conflicts and tension that exists inside the inter-generational dialogue.
The proficiency of the knitting alongside the opposing act of unraveling, the types of movement and differentiating body languages, the character of the wool string and its contrasting colors represent the differences and similarities between mother and her daughter, and the complicated relationships between them.
עבודת הווידאו: "על מסרגת הזמן" אשר שמה נלקח מתוך שורה בשיר שכתבתי, עוסקת בחינוך, במורשת, ביחסי הורה וילד, בדומה ובשונה ביניהם, בזיכרון והיזכרות ובכך חושף את המתחים והקונפליקטים בדיאלוג הבין דורי. הקניית מיומנות הסריגה מחד, אקט הפרימה מנגד, התנועתיות ושפת הגוף השונות, איכויות הצמר וצבעיו המנוגדים מייצגים את השונה והדומה בין האם ובתה ואת מערכת היחסים המורכבת ביניהן.
Thread, Line, Bridge
The inspiration for the video “Thread, Line, Bridge” is the grace which was given to me for the development of the spirit, the ladder which allows me to move as I like between higher and underground worlds. It also expresses nostalgia for my late father Alfred (Freddie) Eliyahu Cohen, R.I.P.; to his image, lineage, and significance in my life, even when I didn’t understand it fully while he was still alive.

The video work “Black, Red, White” is the third work in this trilogy. It represents the creative process from the inception of its idea to its material realization.
